THE SCIENCE SWAP

The Science Swap is a collaborative effort to help families of home educated high schoolers meet the state's extensive lab requirements towards a high school diploma and graduation. Our educators are professional and academic experts in these scientific fields of study and help bring science to life in our immersive lab clinics. Each clinic offers engaging, hands-on experiments encouraging students to interact with one another and their environment.

THE FOUNDERS

Trinkett Mims & Katie Kuchinksy

These two homeschool moms have guided their children from Pre-K through high school, raising a total of 12 children between their families and bringing with them a combined 25 years of homeschooling experience. They share a passion for teaching about God and His creation through every subject. Their approach to homeschooling is rooted in subject mastery, fueled by discussion, and strengthened through hands-on experiences.

At The Science Swap, we believe that home education is more than academics—it’s about instilling an awe for our Creator, a love for learning, and a sense of community. By coming together with other parents and students, each person has the opportunity to share their unique God-given gifts, forming a mosaic of talents that work together toward a common purpose. Our desire is to create an environment where students grow not only in knowledge, but also in faith, confidence, and cooperation—all for the greater glory of God.

LEAD TEACHER

Dr. Laura Kelsey Flaherty, DVM
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Laura graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She practiced small animal general medicine for three years before moving into small animal emergency and critical care medicine, where she served for 15 years.

Now in her ninth year of homeschooling her four children, she has taught in many classroom settings, including (but not limited to) elementary class leader, middle grades class leader, and science lab instructor, and administrative roles in the co-op.

She has a deep passion for teaching biology and anatomy & physiology, and she especially enjoys guiding students through hands-on dissections that bring science to life.
